Blogito (Little Blog) - Valentine's Day

After skyping with Valentine #1 and just as I was calling it a night I got a call from Valentines #2 (Paul) and Valentine #3 (Elise). They wanted to show me how cute they were in their heart outfits.

Que linda!!!

Happy (belated) Valentine's to all!

Bagels

So we don't have any bagel stores here in Santiago, which I don't understand because Chilenos eat more bread than anyone I read.  So Saturday morning I attempted to make Emril's recipe for home-made bagels and they turned out like this:

Holes too big and they didn't rise very much...but they tasted like a bagel!

Today I decided to give it another chance and put in two packs of yeast this time with warm water instead of hot water and the yeast activated a lot more.  The bagels rose this time!

Basically all you have to do is make the dough and let it site for an hour. Then form the bagels and they site another half hour.

The your boil them for about 2 minutes

And put the slimey little things in the oven for 30 minutes....

And magically you have bagels in Santiago!  Maybe I'll start my own bagel shop out of my apartment.

Apaltagua Winery, Pirque, Chile

Last Saturday we went on a wine tour to Apaltagua winery. The tour was organized through Mundo de Vino and only cost $50 for transportation, wine tour, tasting, and lunch.  Can't believe it!  Apaltagua is located in Pirque (about an hour outside of Santiago) down the road from Concho y Torro winery.

We loaded the bus and off we went!

And an hour later we arrived! Ignacio, me, Eric, Ethel, Lina, Leni, and Sebastian.

The house on the property was built in 1800 and something...can't remember! They are in the process of converting it into a boutique hotel...maybe 2 or 3 rooms max!
